This program for mentoring in the workplace gives children from disadvantaged backgrounds a big brother or sister to boost their self-confidence and support them in the transition to secondary school.

Connecting Employees with Purpose

For four years, students of an elementary school in Heidelberg have been coming to the SAP headquarters in Walldorf to meet their mentors as part of the workplace mentoring program Cleverlinge², which is the only initiative of its kind in Germany.

The tandem meetings take place every two weeks throughout a full academic year. The activities range from sports, games, crafts, going for walks, doing homework, to simply talking about things that the children have on their minds.

It’s not just the children that benefit; the mentors enjoy overseeing their mentees and feel gratified about the opportunity to engage and be able to make a real difference. Around 100 mentor/mentee tandems have been formed since the start of the program.
