KickApp Cup

Inspiring Education through Football

KickApp Cup uses the power of sports to engage disadvantaged youth with SAP colleagues to demonstrate the power of and generate interest in IT.

Building Digital Skills
Connecting Employees with Purpose

SAP and non-profit partner streetfootballworld bring disadvantaged youth and SAP developers/designers together to create IT solutions that harness the power of football for social change. The “youth/developer” teams compete in a hackathon to build app prototypes that improve the work of non-profit organizations that use football as a tool for social development.

The first KickApp Cup season 2015/2016 was held in six SAP locations worldwide: Walldorf (Germany), Sao Leopoldo (Brazil), Bangalore (India) Palo Alto (USA), Budapest (Hungary) and Ra’nana (Israel).

All winning regional teams participated in a final event during the streetfootballworld festival 2016 in Heidelberg (Germany) and Lyon (France). For three days, participants discussed the best ideas to come up with a solution that would serve partner organizations of streetfootballworld around the globe.

  • 180 SAP developers and designers donated their time and skills.
  • 180 young leaders participated in the Cup.
  • 6 national partners with a reach of over 1.1 million youth collaborated with SAP.

„It was a fantastic experience to get an inside look into the world of a global IT company and work together with SAP developers. Getting a first-hand experience in technology was great fun for me. But my most memorable experience was going on the Danube River by dragonboat. Why? I cannot swim and I only went because my KickAppCup team was so supportive and convinced me to join.”
